When I was in Costa Rica as Annika and Katie’s wedding photographer (previous post) I got some free time and a chance to explore the closest town for one morning. I really like just going to a place I don’t know and trying mixing with the locals. My to go place in almost every new city I visit is the central market, but on my way to the central market I saw a big church from afar (Alajuela Cathedral) and decided to check it out. I got in and seated on one those long wood benches and quickly noticed a short line of people waiting for their turn to confess with an elderly priest. I don’t know why, but the thought came to me: “why not?” Well, there I was in line to confess. The last time I’ve done that I was probably around 14 years old when I wrote my sins on paper, confessed, and then burned the paper after a couple prayers. It was an interesting experience. It is not easy to be vulnerable and acknowledge areas in my life where I should improve. I am glad I got in that line.
After that I went to the central market. It was so nice to see, smell and experience a little bit more of the local life.
